Jim Harbaugh will return as Michigan coach for the 2023 season after talking with teams about a potential return to the NFL for the second straight year. University president Santa Ono tweeted Monday that he spoke to Harbaugh, who confirmed he would return for a ninth season at his alma mater.

The violations include alleged impermissible contact with recruits during the NCAA-mandated dead periods, as well as the use of a defensive analyst for on-field coaching activities, a rules violation.
There were money and contract issues. Saban was being told no by McPherson on a bonus clause, geared to the stock market, that was due to pay Saban $150,000. McPherson balked. Saban also was making in the autumn of 1999 less money than was basketball coach Tom Izzo.
Saban, 68, had two stints at Michigan State, from 1983-87 as defensive coordinator and defensive-backs coach, and 1995-99 as head coach. After he left MSU, he went on to jobs at LSU, and the Miami Dolphins and, since 2007, Alabama.
Saban served as head coach at Michigan State from 1995-99, his second stint at the East Lansing school as he also spent 1983-87 as the Spartans' defensive coordinator/secondary coach.
He accepted a job with the Dolphins on December 25, 2004. Prior to Saban's arrival at Michigan State in 1995, the Spartans had not enjoyed a winning season since 1990 and were sanctioned by the NCAA for recruiting violations under coach George Perles. He left the program after five seasons with a 34-24-1 record.
The legendary coaches go back all the way to 1982, when Saban was coaching with Belichick's father, Steve, at the Naval Academy. About a decade later, when Belichick got his own shot as an NFL head coach, he hired Saban to be his defensive coordinator.
