How long did the Dance of Dragons last?
The Dance of the Dragons, also known as the Dying of the Dragons, was a civil war during Targaryen rule of the Seven Kingdoms. A war of succession between Aegon II and his half-sister Rhaenyra over their father Viserys I's throne, the war was fought from 129 AC to 131 AC.
Most accept the Dance is what killed the dragons and the only one which hatched after the Dance was the stunted Last Dragon who died shortly after. However, four adult dragons survived the Dance and were unaccounted for after it was all done and dusted; Sheepstealer, Silverwing, Morning and the Cannibal.
A Dance With Dragons was published exactly 10 years ago. Let's look back at this massive, ambitious, messy, wonderful novel. A Game of Thrones, the first book in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, came out way back on August 1, 1996.
By the end of the Dance in 131 AC, only four dragons remained alive: Sheepstealer, the Cannibal, and Silverwing, who had been born years before the war, and the dragon Morning, which had hatched during the war.
However, Varys reappears and murders both Kevan and Pycelle, revealing that he has been plotting for years for the Lannisters to destroy themselves so that Aegon Targaryen can take the throne, having been raised to be an ideal ruler. The book ends with Varys sending his child spies to finish Kevan off.
Like his siblings, Rhaegal and Viserion, Drogon was hatched from a clutch of three petrified dragon eggs given to Daenerys as a wedding gift. The Night King killed Viserion, and Rhaegal was (controversially) shot down by Euron Greyjoy, leaving Drogon as the last surviving dragon at the end of the series.
Guillaume and Cirjon established that the shortest-lived true dragon, the white, can live as long as 2,100 years. The true dragon species that lives the longest is the gold; Guillaume and Cirjon put the gold's maximum age at 4,400 years.
That's right, Daenerys' dragons all reunited with her on Game of Thrones, and it was completely and utterly epic. After the masters backed Dany into a corner, she summoned everyone's favorite Drogon and rode off into the battle with him.
The fall from grace of Game of Thrones
We were asked to believe that Daenerys was mad because they were telling us she was, but the audience knew better. She could have taken a dark turn somewhere down the line if there had been more time and more build-up.

' Dragons are deeply embedded in many different cultures and the mythology and folklore surrounding them are so vast that it's practically impossible to determine how many there are. Some sources claim there are 73 types, others that there are only 50.
